Calgary Coffee Recycling Program

Single Cup Kcups Calgary

single cup coffeeSingle Cup Coffee has become the fastest growing area in the office coffee services industry. Single serve coffee brewers and convenient single-use cups have certainly revolutionized the way people drink their coffee. It is reported that almost 15% of North Americans drink coffee brewed in pod every day. Another stats – Back in 2010, Keurig Green Mountain had an estimated sale of 3 million K-Cups. Last year, they sold 9.8 billion (not million) cups.

Unfortunately, just like any other technologies, this single cup coffee system has created a problem of epic proportions. And the popularity of pods is taking its toll on the environment. We see approximately 3 million cubic feet of waste in our landfills every year. To put things into perspective, this caffeine waste would fill 8,300 shipping containers that would be placed end to end from Vancouver to Whistler!

Environmental Stewardship

Coffee Recycling ProgramPlanet Coffee Calgary are fully aware of the environmental issue. And as a steward of we have designed and continue to refine an innovative coffee recycling program. We supply all Single Cup customers with recycling bins to collect used single cup packaging at no extra charge. And we’ve had incredible results: Planet Coffee and its customers have diverted single cup coffee waste going to the landfill by over 323,500 pounds since 2007, with almost 100% participation from our single cup customers in the Calgary area.
