Coffee, like wine, can be hard to characterize. Granted it’s not difficult to identify bitter, or sweet flavors, but we want to go beyond that in order to classify beans. So here is the coffee taster’s flavor wheel that serves as a useful guide for body as well as helpful adjectives and intensifiers for coffee. The original flavor wheel was developed by Specialty Coffee Association of America in 1995 and, according to the SCAA website, is “a glossary of coffee terms based on sensory science and has become the standard that most cuppers today use in describing the coffee they buy and/or sell.”
