Starbucks or Planet Coffee?

True, we have Tim Hortons in Canada, let’s admit it: The first name that comes to our mind every time you think of a hot cup of coffee is Starbucks. There is no denying that Starbucks changed the coffee industry forever. Since 1971, they have spent insane energy on creating the brand experience around a community called a “third place.” And almost 50 years later, there are over 27,000 Starbucks stores around the world. As of 2016, there were 1,460 stores open in Canada.

Starbucks Problems

However, many people are not happy with what is being offered by the coffee giant. Prices quietly being raised, new rewards program, and the recent outrage over the arrest of two black men at a Philadelphia Starbucks, to name a few. But the core issue that many coffee lovers point out seems to be the taste of Starbucks coffee.

Starbucks or Planet Coffee CalgaryMore than likely, if you care about your coffee tastes, you would make the effort to find an independent coffee shop that cares about the coffee they are creating. Many people tell us that Starbucks coffee drinks are strong and carry a very bitter and burnt taste. There is absolutely nothing wrong with strong coffee, but it should taste nice and smooth. The most likely reason for the bitter/burnt taste is that Starbucks roasts their beans at a higher temperature than most roasters in order to produce large quantities of beans in a short time and to ensure taste consistency throughout the world.

Planet Coffee in Business Coffee World

So where does Planet Coffee fit in all this? We seek to help our clients to create that third-place environment in their office. It’s a comfortable place where employees can enjoy an awesome business coffee experience without leaving their office. Starbucks CFO Scott Maw actually acknowledged that “the collective group of independent coffee shops out there, they are doing a lot of what Starbucks has been so good at for so long. It’s that third-place environment, it’s a comfortable place to be, it’s an up-leveled coffee experience.”

Well, we are not an independent coffee shop, but our goal is to help produce that environment in the business coffee world. No doubt this will lead to more productivity at work and higher satisfaction. If you have any questions, please contact us and we would be happy to assist you!
